01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Step down the stairs and open the door, and you are met with floor-to-ceiling shelves of vinyl and deep, textured audio filling the room. Based in a basement in Kagurazaka's Yaraicho district, K.WEST is a music bar that naturally draws both neighborhood regulars and wandering travelers for its analog sound and easygoing hospitality. Stepping into an unfamiliar underground bar can feel daunting at first, but the proprietor's welcoming demeanor quickly sets you at ease.

The collection lining the walls spans widely, from classic rock to jazz and soul. Between the soft drop of the needle and the physical ritual of flipping a record, the room carries an organic warmth and tactile presence quite distinct from digital streaming. Guests can request a record that catches their eye, chat about tracks with the host, or simply settle into the steady rhythm of the evening.

The back bar offers a generous selection centered on bourbons and other whiskies, rounded out by spirits like gin and tequila alongside classic cocktails. A dram on the rocks or a gin and soda pairs naturally with simple bar bites such as karinto (sweet fried dough snacks) or nuts. Rather than serving full meals, the space strikes an appealing balance as an auditory perch designed around good drinks and whatever is spinning on the turntable.

The lights go on from 17:00 in the evening, with pours continuing until 2:00 late on Friday nights. It is an easy place to drop into after dinner, wrapping up the day surrounded by great sound.
